Surviving the trip to your holiday destination!

The Best Car Games

Travelling within your home state is the only and safest way to travel at present and what better way to explore your own state than with a family road trip?

School holidays are just around the corner and while excitement levels are on high after booking your trip. Sometimes the trip to your destination can wear you out, especially with younger passengers screaming “I’m bored, are we there yet”. Preparation is the key to a calm road trip.

To assist with your preparation, we at Nobby Beach Holiday Village have compiled a list that will hopefully help in keeping you sane in your journey to our park.

  1. Pack a snack pack for everyone in the car including plenty of food and water (don't forget the treats).
  2. If driving long distances, plan your pit stops and turn them into a mini break before arriving at the destination. It could be anything from a family picnic to sightseeing the local town – anything that helps to stretch their legs is always a good thing.
  3. Pass the time with these old fashioned car games:
  • I Spy: “I spy with my little eye, something red”. The directions are simple: One person spies something and recites the line, ending in a clue. Everyone else takes turns trying to guess the mystery item.
  • The Colour Game: Each player picks a colour, the first player to spot 20 vehicles (cars, motorbikes, trucks) in that colour wins.
  • Spot the Car Model: Each player picks a type of car brand, the first person to spot 20 cars in that brand wins. Print our Spot the Car Model Template here.
  • Road Trip Bingo: These are pretty easy to make up yourself or download our A5 version here. Pick 20 items to showcase on your bingo cards (including; windmills, bus, caravan, bike, church, petrol station, school crossing…), source some clipart photos of each and paste them on a A5 sheet of paper. Make sure each bingo card is in a different order. Laminate and pack some white board markers and a duster or wet cloth to re-use again and again.
  • Name That Tune: Sing or hum a song and let everyone in the car try to guess the name of that song.
  • Tic Tac Toe: All you need are two players, a pencil and some paper to play this popular standby. Player One places an X on the grid, Player Two places an O. They continue to take turns until one player has three in a row (vertically, horizontally or diagonally). Grab some pencils and hand your kids several copies of our printable Tic Tac Toe template and let them do the rest.
  • Hangman: Play One thinks of a person, place, movie or book title. Instead of writing out the saying, they leave an underscore for each letter in each word. Player Two guesses one letter at a time. If the mystery saying contains the letter, it is written in the correct place. If not, the first player draws a head on the hangman scaffold. When enough incorrect letters have been guessed, the body is complete, and the second player loses. If the guesser solves the puzzle before the body is complete, they win. 1. If all else fails pack some personal music players where they can listen to their own music, an iPad or better yet an In-car DVD player will keep them occupied for an hour or two. Just don’t forget to charge all devices before you leave home.
